Record Collapse: New Poll Reveals Trump’s Foreign Policy Support In Freefall

Americans are fed up

Donald Trump’s handling of the world is failing to impress Americans. Polls show his approval on foreign policy has dropped to the lowest point since he returned to the White House.

According to a recent Marist Poll, only 37% of U.S. adults approve of how Trump manages foreign affairs. Meanwhile, 56% disapprove, and 7% are unsure. That leaves his net approval at -19, the worst of his second term so far.

The pattern isn’t limited to one poll. An AP NORC survey found that 6 in 10 Americans think Trump has gone too far with military actions abroad. In the same survey, 61% said they disapprove of his overall foreign policy. The Economist YouGov poll agrees. Only 39% approved, while 50% disapproved and 11% had no opinion.

Trump insists America’s role overseas is stronger than ever. He says the economy is booming, threats are being neutralized, and his actions are “historically successful.” But Americans are unconvinced. Military interventions in Venezuela, threats to Greenland, and other aggressive moves are fueling frustration.

Former President Joe Biden had similar foreign policy disapproval at times in 2021. But Biden started the year with 46% approval before slipping to 56% disapproval. Trump is starting lower and falling faster.

Partisans are divided sharply. Republicans largely support him. Democrats largely oppose him. Independents tilt negative. This sends a clear warning that foreign policy could become a problem in the upcoming elections.

Polling methods matter, too. The Marist survey included 1,408 adults across phone, text, and online. It was balanced to match U.S. Census data by age, race, region, and gender. AP-NORC surveyed 1,203 adults using a probability-based panel. Economist/YouGov used 1,602 adults online. Margins of error were roughly three to four points in each case. The numbers are solid.

For Americans struggling with rising costs, the disapproval numbers may be about more than strategy. They reflect a sense that Trump’s foreign moves don’t match domestic priorities. Food, rent, healthcare — those concerns hit home while billions are spent abroad on interventions and threats.

Trump’s record-low approval also reflects style. Brash, unpredictable, and aggressive, he pursues foreign policy like a game of showmanship. Some voters might like the energy, but most see it as reckless.
