With the off-year elections now over, the 2028 presidential election is just three years away, when America will vote in the first presidential election since 2012 without Donald Trump on the ballot.
It’s still early, and no one knows, right now, who the candidates of the two major parties might be in that election. But there’s a new poll that matches two of the most likely candidates- and it’s not good news for Republicans.
According to Newsweek, a poll from the League of American Workers/TIPP, a Republican-affiliated firm, shows that California Gov. Gavin Newsom leads Vice President J.D. Vance among young male voters.
Among young male voters, 38 percent would vote for the California governor in 2028 compared to 33 percent for the vice president. https://t.co/TTlJch3qpb

The poll shows that “among young men, 38 percent would vote for Newsom compared to 33 percent for Vance.”
“The findings suggest that Newsom—a prominent Democratic voice—continues to outperform expectations with a demographic that has trended toward the GOP in recent years,” Newsweek said of the poll. “The results come amid renewed debate within both parties over how to win back young men, a group increasingly seen as pivotal to future national elections.”

Neither man has officially declared that he is running for president in 2028. But Newsom has been assumed for much of his career to be aiming for an eventual presidential bid, while Vance would likely emerge as Donald Trump’s heir apparent, assuming Trump gives up his doomed dream of running for an unconstitutional third term.
The poll arrives as Trump has reached a new low in his approval ratings. According to the RealClearPolling average, Trump is now at an average of 42.9 percent approval and 54.2 percent disapproval, a spread of 11.3 percent, which represents the worst rating of Trump’s second presidency. Trump’s average in that poll was last in positive territory in early March and has been negative ever since, although it didn’t reach double-digit negative until late last month.
In the polls included in the average, Trump is currently in the red in every single one, even ones that are Republican-leaning and have sometimes favored him when others haven’t.
