Republican Senator Responds To Trump Angry Tirade, Doubles Down On The Fact That Trump “Lost” The Election And Claims “Nearly All Of My Senate Republicans” Agree

Oh, this isn't going to go over well.

Former President Donald Trump lashed out in a statement on Monday that was tweeted out by his spokesperson Liz Harrington to circumvent his ban on the social media site. Trump had apparently seen Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) in an interview over the weekend, calling the 2020 presidential election “fair.” Still, Rounds is doubling down, even after Trump called the South Dakota Republican a “jerk,” vowing never to endorse him again.

“I’m disappointed but not surprised by the former President’s reaction,” Rounds said in his statement. “However, the facts remain the same. I stand by my statement. The former President lost the 2020 election.”

“This isn’t new information,” he continued. “If we’re being honest, there was no evidence of widespread fraud that would have altered the results of the election. To that point, nearly all of my Senate Republican colleagues acknowledged this last January. During the electoral certification process, we did our due diligence and looked at the challenges made by the former President’s lawyers. Over 90 senators agreed that there was not enough evidence to overturn the results and, therefore, certified the election as our Constitution calls for.”

Yeah, the big guy isn’t going to like that one bit. The twice-impeached one-term President somehow thinks he deserves the keys to the White House even after costing his party the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. Trump was the least popular President in polling history, and millions of jobs were lost on his watch in the election year. The former President did terribly in his first debate with Joe Biden, and he pulled out of the second debate.

To be part of the Republican party today, a person has to deny reality and claim that Trump won the election that he lost to President Biden in the popular and electoral vote. Just as he denied the seriousness of COVID-19, Trump will continue to deny that he lost the election, and if his Republican colleagues don’t go along with his big lie, he will make their lives miserable.
