The imminent end of Donald Trump’s presidency has been predicted many times; both the first time Trump was president and the second. But should Trump follow through on plans to take over Greenland, even by force, if necessary, that could really mean the end.

That’s the opinion, anyway, of a dissident Republican in Congress who has been teeing off on the president before he leaves office after his current term.

According to The Daily Beast, Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) spoke about the matter in a recent interview with the Omaha World-Herald.

Bacon described Trump’s idea of invading Greenland as “utter buffoonery” and predicted the House could impeach the president if he goes through with it.

“I’ll be candid with you: There’s so many Republicans mad about this,” the Nebraska Congressman said. “If he went through with the threats, I think it would be the end of his presidency. And he needs to know: The off-ramp is realizing Republicans aren’t going to tolerate this, and he’s going to have to back off. He hates being told no, but in this case, I think Republicans need to be firm.”

Bacon, who was in Congress at the time, voted against both of the impeachment resolutions against Trump during his first term. He was also asked if he would vote to impeach Trump, in the event of an attempted Greenland takeover.

“I don’t want to give you a definite yes or no, but I would lean that way,” he said. “It would be a total mistake to invade an ally. It would be catastrophic to our allies and everything. It’s just the worst idea ever in my view.”
Earlier this week, the president declared on Truth Social that the United States “needs” Greenland, “for the purpose of national security.” He also claimed that NATO would become stronger if Greenland was part of the United States, and not a territory of Denmark, which is itself a NATO member.
