Donald Trump has been talking a lot in recent weeks about “nationalizing” elections, something he almost certainly does not have the power to do, as elections are run almost entirely at the state level. Late on Tuesday night, on Truth Social, he shared a post laying out something of an ominous scenario of what could take place in the midterm elections this fall. It was one of several Truth Social posts, on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, in which the president amplified long-debunked conspiracy theories.
“Crooked Elections cannot be allowed in the U.S.A. President DJT,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. Below that, he shared a post from an account called “TheStormHasArrived,” as “The Storm” has long been a reference to the QAnon conspiracy theory.
That post featured a description of a radio segment, in which Don Bongino hosted John Solomon, a conservative reporter long known for laundering pro-Trump conspiracy theories. Solomon supposedly stated that Trump “will soon unveil evidence that foreign powers meddled in the 2020 election, which will result in John Thune ultimately caving on the filibuster and the Save America act will get passed.”
Dan Bongino had John Solomon on his show today and Solomon made an interesting prediction:

“I think Donald Trump is going to change the narrative in America. I think he is going to change some senators’ minds.”
It’s not clear what evidence this is, or if it exists, why Trump would have withheld it until now. Or, for that matter, why Bongino, who spent the first year of Trump’s second presidency as the deputy director of the FBI, did nothing with such “evidence.”
It does matter, however, that such nuttery was shared on social media by the president.
Trump doubled down with another Truth Social post on Wednesday morning, declaring that “We cannot let the Democrats get away with NO VOTER I.D. any longer. These are horrible, disingenuous CHEATERS. They have all sorts of reasons why it shouldn’t be passed, and then boldly laugh in the backrooms after their ridiculous presentations. If it weren’t such a serious matter, it would be considered a TOTAL JOKE! No Voter I.D. is even crazier, and more ridiculous, than Men playing in Women’s Sports, Open Borders, or Transgender for Everyone. Republicans must put this at the top of every speech — It is a CAN’T MISS FOR RE-ELECTION IN THE MIDTERMS, AND BEYOND!”
