Rumors of President Donald Trump’s death have been greatly exaggerated.

On Friday night, the discourse on X was seemingly overtaken by the idea that the president’s demise was imminent.

What reason was there to believe this? Not much, aside from Trump not having appeared in public for a few days, having no public events on his schedule for the weekend, and the many recent reports about Trump having marks on his hands and swollen ankles. In addition, the 79-year-old president has been speaking a lot lately about his desire to get into heaven, indicating that he’s had mortality on his mind.

For a while on Friday night, several topics related to Trump’s alleged death were trending on X:

Alas, the rumors were proven false by Saturday morning, when the White House pool reporter stated that Trump was golfing in Virginia.

Then photos surfaced of the president arriving for his golf round.

“Some 158,000 X posts including the phrase ‘TRUMP IS DEAD’ and 42,000 stating ‘TRUMP DIED’ had been made as of 7:48 a.m. ET. on Saturday, according to the platform’s analytics,” Newsweek reported Saturday.

While the speculation proved unfounded, there were some entertaining social posts during the brief “Trump may be dead” boomlet:
