According to a local new report from the Bowling Green Daily News, Leanette Lopez who is running for the Kentucky House of Representatives was arrested over the weekend for the second time in connection to an alcohol-related offense, in which she allegedly got into a physical confrontation with a law enforcement officer, resulting in calls for her campaign to be suspended.

The Republican Party is now calling for Lopez to suspend her congressional campaign for Kentucky’s House of Representatives after the GOP candidate was reportedly charged with third-degree assault, a felony offense, and suspicion of drunken driving.

The Warren County Republican Party said in a statement, “The details surrounding the most recent arrest of Leanette Lopez are shocking and unacceptable. She should immediately suspend her candidacy for state representative.”

According to the report, law enforcement officers were called out when someone found Lopez in the driver’s seat of her vehicle with a bottle of vodka sitting in her lap. Upon the arrival of the police, Lopez was allegedly combative, refusing to take a field sobriety test and even becoming physically hostile towards the officers who ultimately had no choice but to forcibly remove the Republican candidate from her vehicle.

Lopez continued to refuse the field sobriety test and remained combative once she arrived at the jail, with a police citation reading, “While jail deputies were placing Lopez into the restraint chair, she grabbed the finger of one of the jail deputies and bent it, causing pain and loss of function of her finger temporarily.” Ultimately, Lopez was later released on a $5,000 cash bond.

To make matters worse, this is not the first time Lopez has been arrested on similar charges, as she was reportedly arrested on a charge of alcohol intoxication in a public place on February 27th.
