In his interview on 60 Minutes this week, Donald Trump was asked by Norah O’Donnell what he thinks about the ongoing New York Mayoral race, which will be decided on Tuesday. Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, is running against former New York governor and independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.

In the interview, Trump was first asked what he thinks about the self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist Mamdani, and replied, “Communist, not a socialist, he’s far worse than a socialist.”

“Some people have compared him to a left-wing version of you — charismatic, breaking the old rules, what do you think about that?” O’Donnell asked the president.

“Well, I think I’m a much better-looking person,” Trump said.

Trump has often been critical of Mamdani, with some in the MAGA coalition going so far as to call for his citizenship to be stripped. Trump and Cuomo, meanwhile, were full-fledged enemies during Trump’s first term as president, with the then-New York governor holding daily briefings during the pandemic that often directly contradicted the information Trump was providing in his own press briefings.

Cuomo has been running much more to the center in this race, with Politico reporting in August that he was counting on a “Trump bump.” Meanwhile, Trump has refused to endorse Sliwa, the Guardian Angels founder and his fellow New Yorker.

“If [Sliwa] dropped out, he’s not going to win — and not looking too good for Cuomo either,” Trump told reporters in October, per the New York Post. “But maybe, I don’t know, if he dropped out, maybe Cuomo would have a little bit of a chance, but not much, because it looks like the lead is, it’s not a great lead, but it’s big enough that he should be able to win.”

Eric Adams, the current mayor the of the city who was elected as a Democrat, was indicted last year on corruption charges, but had the indictment essentially dismissed, in a controversial arrangement that had him agreeing to assist the Trump Administration on immigration matters. Adams was running for re-election and lost the primary, although he continued his re-election bid on an independent ballot line before dropping his effort last month.

There were some amused reactions to Trump’s comments about his looks:
