Far-right activist Laura Loomer recently hit a new milestone. She now has her own desk in the Pentagon press room after big changes to the Pentagon’s press policy, which some journalists, like Dan Lamothe from The Washington Post, chose not to accept.
Loomer took to X (formerly Twitter) to show off her new workspace. “The Washington Post @washingtonpost and Dan Lamothe @DanLamothe used to occupy this desk inside the Pentagon Press room,” she wrote. “Now it’s mine!”

Lamothe responded with a bit of sarcasm. He wished Loomer well but also made a joke about her acting like getting his old desk was a big victory.
May it treat you well on your occasional trips to Washington, Laura.
I assume it’ll sit empty much of the time, as it has for weeks now. https://t.co/Yy89f5xR0v

The United States is in a state of profound disarray. How can we permit individuals with severe mental instability to be near the Pentagon… the very epicenter of our national security? You know who doesn’t post weird stuff like this ? Actual journalists.
Imagine the idea that the Pentagon is going to have to have a serious presser given the current situation. And the only people there will be … groupies and influencers

The Pentagon’s new press rules give some reporters more direct access to military briefings. This has caused a lot of discussion. Some people worry it gives fringe voices too much attention.
However, there is some irony in the situation. For years, reporters like Lamothe followed strict rules when covering the Pentagon. Now, Loomer occupies the same space, using it to broadcast her own perspective, often confrontational, to a highly engaged online audience.
