Film props over genuine art

A new film about Melania Trump shows what looks like a famous Renoir painting in her Trump Tower office. The painting in the movie seems to be La Loge, one of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s most famous works.

In the trailer, Melania sits in her office surrounded by marble columns, gold statues, and a luxurious desk.

On the wall, a large framed picture hangs, and many viewers assumed it was the real artwork. But art experts quickly noticed that the original La Loge is not in New York. It is at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.

The real painting has recently been on display in Paris at the Musée d’Orsay and in Washington at the National Gallery of Art. It has never been in Trump Tower. So what appears in the film must be a replica or a prop.

A former aide said, “Donald Trump loves to flaunt his wealth, but like so many things in his life, it is not always what it seems. He might know the Art Of The Deal, but does not know much about dealing in art.”

This is not the first time a Renoir linked to Trump turned out to be a copy. In 1996, Trump showed a painting he claimed was worth $10 million on his private plane. That painting, Two Sisters (On The Terrace), was later confirmed to be at the Art Institute of Chicago, where it has been since 1933.

The new documentary, called Melania, is directed by Brett Ratner and made by Amazon MGM Studios in a reported $40 million deal. The film follows Melania for 20 days before Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration. It shows private moments, official events, and her daily routine during this time.

The trailer shows Melania at the Capitol during the swearing-in ceremony. It also shows her traveling between New York, Palm Beach, and Washington. Viewers see her helping organize events and supporting the president. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 30, 2026.

Amazon says the movie gives “unprecedented access” to these 20 days. Melania is listed as an executive producer. She has said the documentary gives “a private, unfiltered look” at her life, family, and work.
