As President Trump made clear in a Truth Social post earlier this week, the Trump Administration’s attitude toward a slew of unfavorable polls at the 100-day mark is to blame the pollsters. Trump has accused the pollsters for the New York Times, Washington Post, and elsewhere of crimes, even declaring that “these people should be investigated for ELECTION FRAUD.” In that post, Trump also said, “Add in the FoxNews Pollster while you’re at it.”

The week before, Trump had mused about asking Fox News’ chairman emeritus, Rupert Murdoch, to fire the network’s pollster. And this week, Trump’s most loyal adviser made the same demand on Fox’s own network.

Appearing on Fox News Tuesday night, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller reiterated the demand.

Anchor John Roberts asked Miller about Trump’s polling numbers, with Roberts declaring that Trump is underwater. Even though he’s “about even on immigration in total” Trump, “particularly on the economy, tariffs and inflation, he’s well underwater.”

“A lot of people think that he’s spending too much time on tariffs and not enough time on the economy and lowering prices. What do you say?” Roberts said, citing numbers from Fox News’ own poll.

In response, Miller reiterated the administration’s official line, stating that it is not Trump who is wrong, but rather the polls that are incorrect.

“I don’t want to make things awkward for you, John, but it is our opinion that Fox News needs to fire its pollster,” Miller said. “I don’t think you are surprised I’m saying that, but the Fox News pollster has always been wrong about President Trump.” Miller went on to say, “We don’t acknowledge” that polling and stated that Fox had been saying “all summer long” that Kamala Harris would win the presidential election.

Miller is not telling the truth. RealClearPolling continues to publish historical data, including Fox News’ polls from throughout the presidential election. A poll conducted by Fox on July 10 had Trump ahead by 1 point. Similarly, another poll conducted on August 12, the same week several polls had Harris ahead. A Fox poll in September did have Harris ahead, but that isn’t part of “all summer,” and Fox again had Trump ahead in mid-October. At any rate, Fox’s polls were no worse for Trump than those of most other mainstream outlets.
