The same old Cruz

Every time a rare winter storm hits Texas, Senator Ted Cruz seems to vanish.

Back in 2021, during the deadly freeze that paralyzed the state, he left while millions of Texans battled snow, ice, and power outages. Now the same pattern is playing out again.

As another storm gathered over the South, Cruz was spotted boarding a plane to Laguna Beach, California.

Forecasters are warning of heavy snow, sleet, ice, and plunging temperatures across the South and East. The Weather Prediction Center called it “great swaths of heavy snow, sleet, and treacherous freezing rain” stretching from northern Texas to the Mid-Atlantic. Travel disruptions and power outages are expected across the region.

The storm is shaping up to be brutal. Temperatures could fall 30 degrees below normal, with wind chills in parts of the Upper Midwest near minus 50. Meteorologist Bob Oravec told The New York Times, “The main ingredients are there” for a dangerous storm as moisture-rich Gulf air meets frigid Arctic air.

As Texans brace for the worst, Cruz’s flight set social media buzzing. People noticed the now-familiar pattern of him leaving Texas during storms and called out voters who re-elected him despite last year’s escape.
