Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has gotten a lot of guff over the years for going on vacation. This was most notably the case in 2021, when he headed to Cancun for a family trip during a major winter storm deep freeze in his home state. Cruz went on to apologize for his decision.

It happened again in July, when Cruz happened to be on vacation in Greece, when major floods hit Texas, although his office claimed that he took the first flight back to deal with the situation.

Meanwhile, this week, Cruz posted a video of his family on vacation at Lake Powell, including one of his “bad-ass wife,” Heidi, water skiing.

There is not currently a natural disaster going on in Texas, although there is the ongoing controversy in which Republicans in the state are trying to pass gerrymandered districts, while Democrats have left the state, leading to threats from Gov. Greg Abbott that the Democratic lawmakers could be arrested.

Cruz’s family, this time, did not leave the country. The U.S. Senate is not currently in session, and Cruz, as a U.S. senator, has no obvious role to play in the redistricting controversy. Nevertheless, social media users let him have it in the replies and quote-tweets, for seemingly going on vacation the most of any senator.

There were also plenty of references to Trump having insulted Heidi Cruz’s looks, back when Trump and Cruz were rivals for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. Cruz has been loyal to Trump, seemingly unshakably, ever since.
