Sleepy Donny strikes again

Donald Trump has never been shy about mocking others, especially when it comes to age and energy. For years, he branded Joe Biden as “Sleepy Joe,” turning it into a regular campaign insult. Now, that line is coming back to haunt him in a very public and viral way.

This week, The Daily Show dropped a Christmas-themed video that puts Trump at the center of the joke. The late-night show released a 10-minute compilation wishing viewers “Merry Christmas” while telling the 79-year-old president “good night.” The timing could not have been better.

Trump’s habit of appearing to doze off during public events has become hard to ignore. From cabinet meetings to campaign stops, cameras have repeatedly caught moments where his eyes droop and his posture slumps. Each clip has sparked debate, memes, and concern, often all at once.

The Daily Show leaned into those moments with precision. The video, titled “Set to ‘Silent Night,’” opens with a cozy fireplace scene. Instead of a crackling Yule log, viewers are treated to looping footage of Trump appearing to fall asleep at various events. The background audio makes the punchline even sharper.

Rather than traditional Christmas music, the show plays Trump’s own past words. Viewers hear him mocking Biden for sleeping in public. “Who the hell sleeps in front of the paparazzi, the media?” Trump asks in one clip. In another, he confidently says, “You’ll never see me sleeping in front of cameras.”

The irony lands immediately. As Trump’s words repeat, the video cuts to moments that seem to directly contradict them. The joke writes itself, and the internet noticed.

This isn’t new territory for late-night TV. Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon have all poked fun at Trump’s sleepy moments before. One especially mocked incident happened during a cabinet meeting, where Trump appeared disengaged as others spoke.

Kimmel summed it up bluntly. “If you can sleep through that voice, then you are tired,” he joked, referring to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The White House later pushed back, insisting Trump was “listening attentively” and fully in charge.

Still, the jokes keep coming, and so do the questions. Medical experts have warned that frequent fatigue in public settings can signal deeper problems.

The administration insists there is nothing wrong. Trump has undergone two medical exams in recent months, and officials continue to say he is in “perfect health.” That reassurance has not stopped speculation, especially after reports of an MRI with little explanation.

Online reactions were swift.
