The White House Just Claimed Trump Stopped Hurricanes — Yes, Really

The White House has credited the president with a quiet hurricane season.

The president, to be sure, does not control the weather. But for some reason, the White House credited President Donald Trump with the lack of hurricanes this season.

According to the Irish Star, there have been very few hurricanes so far this season.

“The Atlantic has been remarkably quiet this hurricane season. So far, no hurricanes have formed yet this year, and none are likely to form for at least another week, even though this would normally be the peak of the season, according to the National Hurricane Center,” the Irish Star reported. “Only five relatively weak and brief tropical storms have spun up this season.”

The article attributed the lack of hurricane formation to “a strong El Niño.”

It’s really staggering, just how inhospitable the Atlantic is to anything that could form a tropical cyclone right now,” Kristen Corbosiero, a University at Albany atmospheric science professor, told the Irish Star. “Anything that tries to form is just getting this triple whammy” of winds that decapitate a storm, dry air that starves it, and downward-pushing winds that basically stomp it, she explained.

The White House’s “Rapid Response 47” X account thanked the president this weekend for the lack of hurricanes.

Clearly, none of the president’s policies have had anything to do with the lack of hurricanes this year. And social media users were vocal about that.
