Donald Trump attends far more sporting events than most presidents, including becoming the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl in person in 2025. He also attended both an NBA Finals game, the U.S. Open tennis tournament, and the World Cup final this year, in addition to the White House MMA fight. And in most of those instances — all but the MMA card — Trump was booed by at least some of the people in attendance.
This week, Late Night with Seth Meyers aired a montage of Trump being booed at the different sporting events, starting with a different soccer tournament, the FIFA Club World Cup, a year ago, also in New Jersey. Several of the events were held in the New York area, where Trump lived for most of his life, with the World Cup Final taking place at “New York/New Jersey Stadium,” usually called MetLife Stadium, in northern New Jersey.

The segment also features Trump speaking haltingly and strangely about the different sporting events, and imaging Charles Barkley reacting; it also shows Trump before the World Cup Final, erroneously, predicting that Argentina would win the World Cup.

“Trump’s sports curse strikes again,” Meyers added. “He goes to the N.B.A. finals, the Knicks lose. He intervenes to get a red card overturned, U.S.A. loses. He says you can’t bet against Messi, Argentina loses. He owned a U.S.F.L. team, and the whole [expletive] league folded. He’s a sports reaper.” Meyers even found a picture of Trump, in attendance at the game, at the moment the New York Mets lost a playoff series in 2006.
“At this point I’m guessing Trump’s staff tries to make him feel better by telling him he’s just being followed around by ghosts,” Meyers said. “Mr. President, remember, no one’s booing you. That’s just Mitch McConnell saying hello.”
“If that montage gets any longer, we’re going to have to release it on DVD,” Meyers added.
