A Tennessee mother’s worst nightmare came to life when she discovered a strange man sleeping in bed between two of her young children, in a Nashville short-term rental where her family was staying. According to reporting from local WSMV, when the mother woke the strange man, he physically lunged at her before running out of the apartment unit.
WSMV reports that the woman stated that she and her husband returned to their Nashville rental at around 3:00 A.M., only to discover an adult man they didn’t know sleeping in between their two young children on a pull-out couch bed.
Adriana Corio, a tenant at the same Sonder short-term rental building, called the terrifying incident “really surprising” because “of the level of security that this building has, like you can’t even get through the front door without an access code let alone into a room.”
“I can’t imagine the reaction I would have to that; it would be just complete shock.”

31-year-old Tanner Tamsin was arrested by law enforcement officials as the alleged subject of the crime and charged with counts of aggravated burglary and assault.
Fellow Sonder tenant Mike Steppe said of what the Tennessee mother and her husband have experienced, “That would feel like waking up in a nightmare.”
“My body would be in fight or flight mode immediately if I found a stranger in the apartment in between my children,” Steppe said.
WSMV reports:
The woman told Metro Police after stepping out, she and her husband came back to their short-term rental around 3 a.m. Saturday, and when they walked into their unit they found a man sleeping in-between their two children on a pull-out couch.
The woman took a quick picture of what she saw, then took a video of her waking the man up when he lunged at her and ran out.
When the woman called police, officers say they found 31-year-old Tanner Tamsin on the first floor of the building. He was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and assault.”
While tenants of the Sonder short-term rental are expressing collective surprise at the incident, there is also a sense of collective increased fear and vigilance. As police are not yet sure how the stranger made it into the unit with their children, Steppe, and other tenants like him say they will be checking their locks a little more closely now.
“Maybe there was some sort of glitch in the computer system that didn’t lock the door. I don’t know. I guess they’ll l just have to be more investigation into it to figure out what the actual cause was,” Steppe said.
Sonder Holdings did not respond to WSMV when the local station reached out for comments on the state of security at their properties.
