After Trump’s Easter morning Truth Social post, MS NOW senior medical analyst Dr. Vin Gupta delivered a diagnosis few in Washington seem willing to confront.
“Erratic. Can’t finish sentences. Often confused. Illogical train of thought. Word finding difficulties. Developing and worsening gradually over time,” Gupta wrote. “The President is exhibiting all the signs of dementia.”
Erratic.
Can’t finish sentences.
Often confused.
Illogical train of thought.
Word finding difficulties.Developing and worsening gradually over time.
The President is exhibiting all the signs of dementia.

What Gupta described was a pattern of publicly observable behavior building for months, not something that started with an Easter f-bomb.

After Trump’s Davos visit in February, Gupta pointed to a “trend line” of cognitive decline that “seems like it’s getting worse.” At Davos, Trump repeatedly confused Greenland and Iceland. He appeared unsteady on a red carpet after stepping off Marine One. Gupta described the hand bruises visible that day as among the most pronounced he had seen.
Trump’s father Fred died in 1999 from pneumonia complicated by Alzheimer’s disease, having previously been diagnosed with dementia.
Trump’s own niece told The Daily Beast Podcast in November that watching the president now reminds her of watching her grandfather. “I see that same look of confusion. I see that he does not always seem to be oriented to time and place. His short-term memory seems to be deteriorating.”
Trump has boasted about acing the Montreal Cognitive Assessment three times. Psychologist Dr. John Gartner has a specific take on that. “You could maybe justify giving someone the MoCA once, just on their age, just as part of a physical. If you’re giving it to him three times, that means you’re not assessing dementia. That means you’re monitoring dementia.”
Gupta made the same observation earlier this year.
“This is not the flex he thinks it is. Those that tend to do Montreal tests with that level of frequency, usually we’re worried about the presence of early-stage dementia or cognitive impairment, so he might be ruling himself in to something that he doesn’t want to rule himself into.”
Gartner has also noted that dementia amplifies existing personality traits. “When people develop dementia, they become the worst versions of themselves. Whatever personality issues or problems they have begin to deteriorate and they become even more crude, disorganized, aggressive, confused versions of that personality disorder.”
The calls for action are growing. Representative Yassamine Ansari wrote on X that “the president of the United States is extremely mentally ill and it’s putting all of our lives at risk. The 25th Amendment exists for a reason – we need to invoke it immediately.” Senator Ed Markey and Representative Eric Swalwell have made similar calls in recent weeks.
