The White House Rose Garden is no longer what it used to be. New photos from July 22 and 23 show a garden that’s now covered in gray tiles and concrete. The roses are gone. The color is gone. And many people think the Trumps ruined it.
One post on Instagram called the new look “The Trump aesthetic.” Another person wrote, “How fitting. They destroy everything living and beautiful.”
For a long time, the Rose Garden was one of the most loved spots at the White House. It was created in 1913 and later redesigned by Jackie Kennedy in the 1960s. People knew it as a place for press conferences and big announcements. Now, many say it looks more like a hotel patio.
The change wasn’t a surprise. Back in March, Donald Trump told Fox News why he ordered the makeover. He said, “Women, with the high heels, it just didn’t work.” He said they were tripping and falling. So he decided to cover it with stone.

That’s right. He paved over it to stop people from stumbling.
The New York Times reported in February that Trump wanted the garden “to resemble a patio like the one he has at Mar-a-Lago.” Later, he told The Spectator that he wanted a “stone surface.”
And now that’s what it is. Stone. No roses. No charm. No Jackie.
Construction crews worked under big white tents to finish the job last week. They were spotted in the garden laying tile and clearing out the last of the old setup. By the time the sun came out, the new version of the garden was complete. But not everyone was impressed.
Many online users said the whole thing felt like another example of the Trumps ignoring history and doing whatever they want. One person wrote, “It’s not his house. He doesn’t need to gut its soul.”
There’s more. Some people are also upset about what else is being planned. Reports say the Republican Party wants to rename the Opera House at the Kennedy Center after Melania Trump. John F. Kennedy’s grandson responded by calling the idea “tone-deaf.”
Now that the new garden is done, some Americans are hoping it won’t last. One person said, “I hope the next administration rips that concrete out and puts back Jackie’s roses.”
The White House has not commented further. But pictures from this week show the full transformation. Even the music Trump played during his golf rounds in Scotland felt more alive than the new Rose Garden.
