Trump Breaks His Silence On Government Hack, Appears To Seriously Downplay Severity And Defends Russia

Trump is Putin's chew toy.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Russia was “pretty clearly” behind the massive cyberattack against the United States, making him the first administration official to publicly tie the Kremlin to the widespread intrusion on our government’s institutions. Trump had remained silent until now when he unleashed a couple of tweets to defend Russia while blaming China, then somehow suggested without evidence that the hack may have been carried out against his own election campaign. His wild-eyed claim about an attack on his election campaign was labeled by Twitter, of course.

We are being attacked, so of course, Trump is siding with the aggressor.

Federal authorities have expressed increased alarm over the intrusion into U.S. and other computer systems around the world. The nation’s cybersecurity agency warned of a “grave” risk to government and private networks, according to Yahoo News. And the president is somehow making himself out to be the victim in all of this.

Pompeo was clear in his remarks.

“This was a very significant effort, and I think it’s the case that now we can say pretty clearly that it was the Russians that engaged in this activity,” Pompeo said in an interview Friday on “The Mark Levin Show.”

“I can’t say much more as we’re still unpacking precisely what it is, and I’m sure some of it will remain classified,” he added.

So, it’s curious as to why Trump downplayed the impact of the sprawling hack on a litany of government agencies and went as far as to defy officials’ and experts’ conclusions on the hack. Beginning in March, suspected Russian hackers penetrated attacks against our country’s departments, including the commerce and treasury departments, homeland security, nuclear laboratories, and the Pentagon. Putin must really have something on Trump.
