Another friend bites the dust

Pam Bondi rode in Trump’s motorcade to the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning. She sat in the room for his primetime Iran war speech Wednesday night. By Thursday she was out of a job.

Trump confirmed it on Truth Social. “Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future.”

He did not say why she was leaving. He rarely does.

Sources say Trump informed Bondi the night of his Iran speech that she would soon be leaving the Justice Department. She pleaded with him to keep her job, begging for more time. “She was unhappy and tried to change his mind,” a source said. It did not work.

She becomes the second cabinet casualty in less than a month. Kristi Noem was fired in March.

The reasons for Bondi’s exit are multiple. Trump has been frustrated for months that she did not investigate or prosecute enough of his political enemies. Grand juries refused to indict James Comey and Letitia James despite Trump publicly demanding action.  The John Brennan investigation stalled.

In a since-deleted Truth Social post Trump had written directly at Bondi: “We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!”

The Epstein files made everything worse.

Bondi told Fox News in February 2025 that an Epstein client list was “sitting on my desk right now to review.” The Justice Department later said no such list existed. MAGA never forgave it.

Trump reportedly also believed Bondi tipped off Eric Swalwell about FBI investigations into his alleged ties with a Chinese spy. “She’s intervening in those matters,” sources say. “The White House wasn’t pleased she was intervening due to her personal friendship with Swalwell.”

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche steps in as acting attorney general. He was Trump’s personal criminal defense lawyer in the New York hush money trial. He told conservatives at CPAC last week that the administration is “changing things.”

Trump is reportedly considering EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin as the permanent replacement.

Bondi has been loyal to Trump since 2016. She led “lock her up” chants at the Republican National Convention. She defended him during his first impeachment. The Trump Foundation even donated $25,000 to her reelection campaign in 2014.
