On Thursday, the ex-dignitary formerly known as Prince Andrew was arrested in connection with his involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein affair.
Andrew, who, following the stripping of his royal titles, is now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested on his 66th birthday on “suspicion of misconduct in public office,” as reported by NBC News.
“We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time,” Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said, per NBC. “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.”
Previous reporting about the investigation indicated that Andrew was being investigated for sharing confidential documents with Epstein.
Later on Thursday, President Donald Trump — another man with embarrassing Epstein ties — was asked about the development.
Per The New York Post, Trump expressed sympathy for the British royal family.

“I think it’s a shame. I think it’s very sad. I think it’s so bad for the royal family. It’s very, very sad,” the president told reporters.
He also praised Andrew’s brother, King Charles, ahead of the king’s upcoming visit to the U.S.
“He’s a fantastic man, king,” Trump said.
DOOCY: On Prince Andrew, do you think American associates of Jeffrey Epstein will wind up in handcuffs too?
TRUMP: I’m the expert in a way because I’ve been totally exonerated. That’s very nice. I can actually speak about it very nicely. I think it’s a shame. I did nothing. pic.twitter.com/PiGVUfNbzV

When asked if he thinks other associates of Epstein might be arrested, Trump gave a surprising answer:
“I’m the expert in a way because I’ve been totally exonerated. That’s very nice. I can actually speak about it very nicely. I think it’s a shame. I did nothing.”
There were some pretty shocked reactions to that:

Trump hasn’t even been close to exonerated on regards to the Epstein files. In fact, he’s very lucky again that the media has not dug deeper into the allegations against him https://t.co/LVYC785R9O
