Trump Calls Major Moment In U.S. History A “Hoax” — And The Backlash Is Explosive

This is completely ridiculous

Old habits die hard. Donald Trump is at it again on Truth Social.

On Sunday, he posted: “The Ukraine Impeachment (of me!) Scam was a far bigger Illegal Hoax than Watergate. I sincerely hope the necessary authorities, including CONGRESS, are looking into this! Adam ‘Schiffty’ Schiff was sooo dishonest and corrupt. So many laws, and protocols, were violated, and just plain broken!!! President DJT”

Watergate involved Nixon’s aides breaking the law, a cover-up, and ultimately Nixon stepping down rather than facing impeachment. It changed politics and public trust in government.

Trump’s post comes after years of trying to change the story about his own impeachment. He is the only U.S. president to be impeached twice, in 2019 and 2021.

In August, the Smithsonian removed Trump from its impeachment exhibit under White House pressure. Only Nixon, Andrew Johnson, and Bill Clinton were left. Trump was later restored, but the museum changed how it described his role during January 6, 2021.

Critics were quick to respond. Watergate was not a hoax. It involved crimes, cover-ups, and forced a president out of office.

People online are reacting with shock and disbelief. Some are mocking the claim, others are frustrated at the rewriting of facts.

Trump has been pushing this idea for months. He has called his impeachment a “scam” multiple times and continues to attack those he sees as enemies.
