The White House was decked out for Christmas, but the president’s speech took an unexpected turn.

The 79-year-old president began speaking freely, jumping between topics as he addressed the crowd.

Trump focused part of his comments on Peru, describing the country as dangerous because of the wildlife. He spoke at length about snakes, claiming tens of thousands of people die there each year from snake bites.

He singled out a viper, calling it the most poisonous snake in the world. Medical experts say that claim is incorrect, noting the inland taipan in Australia holds that distinction. Official studies also show far fewer snake-related deaths in Peru than Trump suggested.

As he continued speaking, Trump appeared energized and animated, moving from one thought to another without pause.

He then turned his attention to a woman in the audience.

Smiling, Trump told her she looked like his daughter, Ivanka. He asked if anyone had ever told her that before. Guests reacted with scattered laughter as cameras focused on the exchange.

Trump encouraged the woman to turn so others could see her face, inviting the crowd to judge the resemblance. He repeated that she looked “just like Ivanka” and said it was “a great compliment.”

The remark circulated fast, with some viewers calling it creepy.

Trump has frequently spoken about Ivanka’s appearance over the years. In past interviews and television appearances, he has praised her looks and made remarks that have drawn criticism and renewed scrutiny.

Sunday’s exchange added to that history.

As his speech continued, Trump returned to familiar political claims. He repeated false statements that he won California in the 2024 election and again insisted the 2020 election was stolen, despite courts and officials finding no evidence to support those claims.

He told the audience that proof was coming, promising large amounts of evidence would soon be revealed.
