Donald Trump, on social media, has never been shy about appearing to endorse violence against his political opponents. He did it again this week.

Per The Daily Beast, Trump took to Truth Social overnight and made a series of posts after Democrats in Congress called on members of the military to refuse illegal orders.

Trump “called” several posts calling for the defeat, the arrest, or worse, of Democratic members of Congress. “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!,” was one post that the president shared.

Trump himself later declared, “This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???”

Trump went on to declare, “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”

The issue was a video released by several Democratic elected officials who are of military and intelligence backgrounds. Sens. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Mark Kelly of Arizona, and Reps. Maggie Goodlander, Jason Crow, Chris Deluzio, and Chrissy Houlahan.

“We want to speak directly to members of the Military and the Intelligence Community. The American people need you to stand up for our laws and our Constitution,” Slotkin wrote, in sharing the video on social media:

The push by the Democrats appears to be connected to the Trump Administration’s recent series of attacks on boats in the Caribbean, which the White House has described as drug interdiction efforts, but could also apply to other actions taken by the administration, the New York Times reported, including threats to deploy military troops in U.S. cities.

“Our laws are clear,” Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, who served in the Navy and as an astronaut, said in the video. “You can refuse illegal orders.”
“We know you are under enormous stress and pressure right now,” the lawmakers said, per the Times. “This administration is pitting our uniform military and intelligence community against American citizens.”
“There’s a real issue there of morale and a feeling like they don’t have a lot of senior leaders who are protecting them,” Slotkin told the Times. “There’s a lot of folks in the rank and file who feel very alone.”
