This was very wrong

Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. He talked about his second-term foreign policy and attacked global institutions. He said, “globalist institutions have significantly decayed the world order.”

World leaders listened as he pointed to what he has done since coming back into office.

On his first day, he pulled the U.S. out of the World Health Organization. Soon after, he ended U.S. participation in the U.N. Human Rights Council. He also ordered a review of many international groups to match his “America First” agenda.

Trump’s speech lasted just under an hour. He closed by saying, “Let us all work together to build a bright, beautiful planet. We’re gonna take care of our people. Thank you very much. It’s been an honor. God bless the nations of the world.” The room gave him polite applause.

Much of his focus was on immigration. Trump said, “If you don’t stop people that you’ve never seen before, that you have nothing in common with, your country is going to fail. I’m the president of the United States, but I worry about Europe. I love Europe, I love the people of Europe. And I hate to see it being devastated by energy and immigration, that double-tailed monster that destroys everything in its wake.”

He added, “You’re doing it because you want to be nice. You want to be politically correct, and you’re destroying your heritage.”

Later, Trump declared, “It’s time to end the failed experiment of open borders. You have to end it now. I can tell you, I’m really good at this stuff. Your countries are going to hell.”

The line was seen by many as very inappropriate, and it came across as deeply embarrassing for a U.S. president to say at the U.N.

Trump also dismissed climate change. He called it, “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world in my opinion.” He said, “All of these predictions were wrong” and “made by stupid people.” His warning was clear: “If you don’t get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail.”

But the evidence says different. Seas are rising. Storms are stronger. Wildfires are worse. Billions are spent every year on disaster recovery. Even the U.S. military has called climate change a serious security threat.

Trump turned to trade as well. He defended tariffs, saying they are a “defense mechanism.” He admitted he wanted the revenue from them. The problem is, tariffs are paid by American businesses and families through higher prices.

He claimed inflation was low. But official data showed consumer prices rose 2.9% in August. That is above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target.

Trump also accused the United Nations directly. He said, “The U.N. is supporting people that are illegally coming into the United States, and we have to get them out.”
