Donald Trump has sent multiple carrier groups to the Middle East, ahead of a possible regime change war in Iran. And now, Trump is also talking about doing something similar in Cuba.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Friday, Trump was asked about the situation in Cuba, which is dealing with a major energy crisis. And just as with Iran, Trump said he’s in discussions with them and then, in the next breath, talked about possibly overthrowing the government with which he’s negotiating.

“The Cuban government is talking with us and they’re in a big deal of trouble as you know,” the president said, per multiple media reports. “They have no money, they have no anything right now. But they’re talking with us, and maybe we’ll have a friendly takeover of Cuba. We could very well end up having a friendly take over Cuba,” he said.

“After many, many years, we’ve had a lot of years,” he said, likely referring to the Castro regime, which has been in place since the late 1950s.

“I’ve been hearing about Cuba since I’m a little boy, but they’re in big trouble, and we could very well [do] something good, I think, very positive for the people that were expelled, or worse, from Cuba that live here,” Trump added, likely in reference to the large community of Cuban exiles who live in the United States.

There were some pretty shocked reactions to what the president said.
