Trump Fuels New Cognitive Concerns After Repeating Himself In Social Media Posts Just 40 Minutes Apart

Signs of cognitive decline?

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Tuesday to repeat his warnings that states are “overregulating” AI, posting nearly identical messages just 40 minutes apart.

At 4:56 p.m., Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Investment in AI is helping to make the U.S. Economy the ‘HOTTEST’ in the World — But overregulation by the States is threatening to undermine this Growth Engine.”

He continued: “Some States are even trying to embed DEI ideology into AI models, producing ‘Woke AI’ (Remember Black George Washington?). We MUST have one Federal Standard instead of a patchwork of 50 State Regulatory Regimes. We can do this in a way that protects children AND prevents censorship!”

Just 40 minutes later, at 5:36 p.m., Trump posted again. This time he said: “Investment in AI is helping to make the U.S. Economy the ‘HOTTEST’ in the World, but overregulation by the States is threatening to undermine this Major Growth ‘Engine.’”

He added: “Some States are even trying to embed DEI ideology into AI models, producing ‘Woke AI’ (Remember Black George Washington?). We MUST have one Federal Standard instead of a patchwork of 50 State Regulatory Regimes. If we don’t, then China will easily catch us in the AI race. Put it in the NDAA, or pass a separate Bill, and nobody will ever be able to compete with America.”

The main differences between the two posts are small. In the first, Trump focused on protecting children and preventing censorship. In the second, he highlighted competition with China and suggested that his proposed federal AI standard be included in the National Defense Authorization Act.

Trump has often been criticized for repeating himself. California Governor Gavin Newsom even asked AI bot Grok earlier this month if people with dementia “repeat false things over and over again,” an apparent jab at Trump. Some experts and even members of his own family have expressed similar concerns.

In addition to AI, Trump used the posts to celebrate other claimed achievements. He said he ended diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, “stopped Biden’s Record Setting Inflation,” intervened to stop eight wars, and created the “hottest“ country anywhere in the world. He also claimed a “HUGE DEFEAT“ for Democrats on the government shutdown.

Many of these claims are not based in reality. U.S. favorability overseas has not reached the heights Trump suggested, and there is no evidence that he ended eight wars. Polls also show more Americans think Trump has “worsened economic conditions in this country” than believe the same about President Biden.

The posts coincided with Senate action on a separate issue. The Senate unanimously approved a bill to release the Epstein files, which Trump said he would sign, despite his past friendship with Jeffrey Epstein drawing scrutiny. The bill had already passed the House and now heads to the president’s desk.
