Trump Goes After GOP Congressman And His New Wife Ahead Of Pivotal House Vote

Politics turned messy

On Monday, Donald Trump went after Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, targeting both him and his new wife.

He claimed Massie had turned into a “Liberal” because of her, calling her a “Radical Left flamethrower” and suggesting Massie might not have known what he was getting into. “People are saying that Thomas Massie became a Liberal because his new wife, blessed be their marriage, is supposedly a Radical Left ‘flamethrower,’” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump went further, calling Massie “absolutely terrible and unreliable,” saying he might be a RINO, a Republican in name only, or “maybe even worse!”

Next, Trump threw his support behind Massie’s rival, Ed Gallrein. He praised Gallrein as a “HIGH QUALITY individual” and said he is the best candidate for Congress. “He is running because he realizes Thomas Massie has been totally disloyal to the President of the United States, and the Republican Party,” Trump wrote. “He never votes for us, he always goes with the Democrats. Thomas Massie is a Complete and Total Disaster, we must make sure he loses, BIG!”

This attack came just hours after Trump urged House Republicans to pass a funding bill to keep the government open.

The GOP majority is shrinking, and every vote matters. Trump wrote, “We need to get the Government open, and I hope all Republicans and Democrats will join me in supporting this Bill … WITHOUT DELAY. There can be NO CHANGES at this time.”

Massie has been at odds with Trump for months. He pushed to release Epstein files and refused to back a big spending bill because he said it added too much to the national debt. That made Trump angry. Trump also attacked Massie after he remarried following his first wife’s death.

Massie married Carolyn Grace Moffa in October 2025, about a year after his first wife, Rhonda, passed away. Moffa worked as a policy staffer and is known in Republican circles for her political views. Trump made her part of his attack, saying she influenced Massie’s politics.

Massie responded to Trump’s attacks last November when CNN asked him about Trump’s comment on his late wife. “I think it’s a new low for him, but again, we laughed it off,” Massie said. “It’s more to his detriment than mine that he … put something like that out. But I think that it was beyond the pale.”
