Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is one of those Republicans who likes to pitch himself as a maverick, even though he isn’t much of one. He vowed, earlier this year, to oppose any version of Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill that contained Medicaid cuts, but ended up voting for it anyway. However, he did introduce a separate piece of legislation to “prevent future” Medicaid cuts.

Now, however, Hawley has drawn the ire of Trump after opposing a measure to “review” former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stock trades.

As Axios reported it, Hawley has introduced legislation that is called the PELOSI Act, standing for “Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments.” Per Axios, the bill “bans members of Congress from trading or holding individual stocks.”

However, per the report, Democratic support is needed to pass it through the committee, over the objections of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). So the new version was to include the president and vice president in the stock trading ban- something the White House opposes.

Per Business Insider, the bill ultimately did pass the  Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee- but Hawley ended up voting against it.

Trump, on Truth Social, went on to rail against Hawley, accusing him of conspiring with the Democrats to “block a Review, sponsored by Senator Rick Scott, and with the support of almost all other Republicans, of Nancy Pelosi’s Stock Trading over the last 25 years.”

“The Democrats, because of our tremendous ACHIEVEMENTS and SUCCESS, have been trying to ‘Target’ me for a long period of time, and they’re using Josh Hawley, who I got elected TWICE, as a pawn to help them,” Trump went on to say.

“I wonder why Hawley would pass a Bill that Nancy Pelosi is in absolute love with — He is playing right into the dirty hands of the Democrats. It’s a great Bill for her, and her ‘husband,’ but so bad for our Country! I don’t think real Republicans want to see their President, who has had unprecedented success, TARGETED, because of the ‘whims’ of a second-tier Senator named Josh Hawley!”

It’s unclear why Trump put words like “target,” “husband” and “whims” in quotes in the Truth Social post.

Republicans have long sought to make hay of stock trades made by Pelosi and her husband, but have been slow to find any proof of wrongdoing.

Pelosi was asked about the question in an appearance on CNN Wednesday:
