Donald Trump, throughout his second presidency so far, has been skeptical of the historical U.S. alliances, especially in Europe. He has been reluctant to join NATO in helping Ukraine against Russia and has often been critical of the idea that the United States should step up for its allies.

He made some even more curious comments in a speech this week.

“One year ago, we were a country that was in serious trouble,” Trump said this week in his Christmas address to the Congressional Ball.

Then he claimed that Europe wants him as its leader.

“We have the hottest country anywhere in the world, they’re all saying it, other leaders are saying it, the European nations are saying it,” Trump added. “The European nations are reporting that your president might as well be the leader of the European nations also; they listen to us, and they respect us.”

It’s pretty clear that Europe doesn’t feel the same way Trump says they do.

There were some amused reactions to Trump’s comments.
