Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is probably the last Republican elected official one might have predicted would break with Donald Trump, but break with him she did, in a dispute over Trump’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case and other matters.

In the last week, Greene has given a series of interviews in which she has apologized for her past controversial comments. She told CNN this week that “I would like to say, humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics; it’s very bad for our country,” adding that “It’s been something I’ve thought about a lot, especially since Charlie Kirk was assassinated.”

“The most hurtful thing (Trump) said, which is absolutely untrue, is he called me a traitor, and that is so extremely wrong,” Greene told CNN’s Dana Bash, “and those are the types of words used that can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger.”

Democrats are currently debating whether Greene is sincere and whether she should be brought into the anti-Trump coalition.

A report in Zeteo, meanwhile, said that Trump is livid with Greene, and that their dispute is likely to get “nastier.”

There was a time, per the report, when Trump considered Greene his favorite member of Congress and talked about wanting her to serve in his administration. But now, Trump’s goal is “Destroy MTG.”

“He feels very betrayed,” one senior Trump administration official told Zeteo. “He gave her the most coveted endorsement in American politics, and she’s just spitting in his face.”

On Tuesday, meanwhile, on the eve of the Congressional vote to move the release of the Epstein files forward, Greene appeared at a press conference in Washington with a group of Epstein accusers.
