Why so defensive?

The angry reaction drew immediate attention, especially since Trump has a long history of being linked to Epstein through photos, quotes, and past social events. Trump once famously said, “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy,” though he later claimed to have cut ties with Epstein long before his 2019 arrest.

Many now believe he’s on the list.

Epstein’s name continues to fuel conspiracy theories, especially in MAGA circles. For years, far-right voices have claimed the government was hiding a secret client list of powerful people connected to Epstein’s sex trafficking operation. That belief has persisted despite a lack of evidence and repeated denials.

The memo released Monday put that theory to rest. According to the Justice Department and FBI, “there is no client list,” and Epstein “died by suicide in his jail cell in 2019.” The memo also stated that multiple reviews found no foul play in his death.

But not everyone is ready to move on—especially some of Trump’s own allies. Prominent figures in the MAGA movement have accused the DOJ of covering up evidence. Prominent Trump officials like FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, both of whom once boosted Epstein-related conspiracies, have faced questions about whether they’re hiding information now that they’re in power.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, once a close Trump ally in Florida, stayed silent during Trump’s outburst. Bondi previously worked as a legal analyst and often spoke about sex trafficking and victims’ rights. But on Tuesday, she said nothing as Trump hijacked the question.

Epstein pleaded guilty to sex charges in 2008 in a controversial plea deal in Florida. In 2019, he was arrested again and charged federally for leading a sex trafficking ring involving underage girls between 2002 and 2005. He died in his jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York before facing trial.
