In a shocking development on Wednesday afternoon, conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was shot during an event at Utah Valley University. Following the news of the shooting, Kirk was reported as in critical condition at an area hospital. Now, it appears, Kirk has passed away.

Despite a report that a man had been arrested, the Deseret News reported that no suspect was in custody.

“On September 10, 2025, at 12:20 a single shot rang out in the quad near the food court on the Utah Valley University Orem Campus as Mr. Charlie Kirk began speaking at his planned rally,” a spokesman for the university said, per the newspaper. “We can confirm that Mr. Kirk was shot, but we don’t know his condition. The suspect is not in custody. Police are still investigating Campus is closed for the rest of the day.”

Several politicians of both parties swiftly condemned the shooting,  starting with President Trump, who declared on Truth Social that “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”

Following reports that Kirk had died, Trump offered another post:

Trump was, of course, the victim of a pair of assassination attempts himself, in 2024.

As of this writing, it remains unknown who is responsible for the shooting. There has been much speculation online about the political motivation or profile of the shooter, but as no suspect has been named or apprehended, there is no way of knowing that.

Several Democratic politicians, even some who have tangled with Kirk in the past, condemned the shooting, expressed hopes for Kirk’s recovery, and denounced political violence as a whole.
