At a fundraiser for his massive new ballroom, President Donald Trump gave attendees a peek into how he and Melania spent their first night in the White House.
“To me, there’s nothing like the White House. After I won, the first night, I went up and I’m standing in the residential hallway with Melania and I’m looking into the Lincoln Bedroom,” Trump told the crowd on Wednesday, according to The Independent.
He added, “I say, ‘That was a surreal experience.’ I’m saying, ‘Do you believe this? We’re in the White House and that’s the Lincoln bedroom!’”
Trump also reflected on adjusting to the new home. “It takes a while to get [used to it]. I’m still not, probably, used to it. It’s just a special place, what can I say. So we have to take care of it.”

Trump and Melania married in 2005 and welcomed their son Barron the next year. The couple has long faced public curiosity, especially around their private life and household routines.
Reports in 2018 suggested the couple sometimes slept in separate rooms. That year, allegations about Stormy Daniels and hush money payments brought more attention to their personal dynamics. Trump denied the affair. During the trial, Daniels testified, and Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records. Melania reportedly called the proceedings a “disgrace,” though she did not attend.
On Wednesday, Trump kept the focus on the White House itself. He hosted a fundraiser for his $250 million, 90,000-square-foot ballroom, which will feature gold decorations and host state dinners. Construction is expected to finish before the end of his term, according to the White House.
The East Room event attracted wealthy donors, including representatives from Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Trump praised them during his speech. “We have a lot of legends in the room tonight, and that’s why we’re here to celebrate you because you’ve given tremendous amounts of money to see a ballroom built for the first time at the White House.”
