Just hours after the news of Tatiana Schlossberg’s passing, Trump posted messages mocking the Kennedys.
Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy, died at 35 after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Her family shared the heartbreaking news, saying, “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.”
Rather than offering any condolences, Trump turned to Truth Social. He shared posts from his supporters mocking the Kennedy family, making no mention of Tatiana’s death.
One of the posts claimed, “The Kennedy Family have LONG neglected the Kennedy Center, btw. They don’t raise money for it. They never show up. And the only Kennedy who has been there recently is a member of Trump’s cabinet.”

Another read, “The Trumps have always been supporters of the arts. The Kennedys are supporters of the Kennedys.”
These posts were about the recent renaming of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Trump’s handpicked board added his name to the building, renaming it the Trump‑Kennedy Center. Work crews even added “The Donald Trump and” above the old name on the building’s sign.
Kennedy family members have strongly rejected the way this happened. Tatiana’s brother Jack Schlossberg wrote that “microphones were muted” during the board call where the renaming was decided, and that the vote was “NOT unanimous.”
Joe Kennedy III, grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, also spoke out. He said the center is protected by law and cannot be changed just because Trump wants it. “It can no sooner be renamed than can someone rename the Lincoln Memorial, no matter what anyone says,” he wrote.
While Trump was posting mocking screenshots, Kennedy family members were posting loving tributes to Tatiana. Her cousin Maria Shriver wrote on social media:
“I return to this space today to pay tribute to my sweet, beloved Tatiana, who left this earth today… She loved her life, and she fought like hell to try to save it.”
Shriver spoke about how Tatiana loved life and how the family is heartbroken. Her message focused on love, loss, and the pain of losing someone so young and important to them.
Instead of joining that mourning, Trump chose to revive arguments about the Kennedy Center name. His posts were aimed at a political fight over the center’s branding and at a grieving family.
Trump’s actions come amid broader controversy around the Kennedy Center. Some lawmakers and music and arts groups have criticized the renaming. There are legal and political challenges underway, including a lawsuit claiming the board change was illegal without Congress’s approval.
