According to newly unsealed transcripts hailing from former President Donald Trump’s sworn deposition in the lawsuit filed against him by world-renowned advice columnist and Trump rape accuser E. Jean Carroll, the scandal-ridden former president made a serious mistake while speaking with Carroll’s attorneys during the testimony that endangered his only leg of defense so gravely that his own lawyer was forced to scramble and intervene in an attempt to correct him in the moment.
Trump has infamously leaned on one specific defense for himself when it comes to Carroll’s allegations that the now former president raped her in the dressing room of a Manhattan department store in the 90s — E. Jean Carroll is not his “type.”
The ex-president has vehemently and repeatedly asserted that he couldn’t have possibly raped or assaulted Carroll in that dressing room, because he is not physically or sexually attracted to her in any way, and he would never go out of his way to assault someone that he didn’t find attractive.
That particular defense is exactly what made this blunder so resoundingly detrimental for Trump.

According to reporting from the Washington Post on the newly unsealed deposition transcripts, Donald Trump was shown a photo of E. Jean Carroll during his testimony. The report and deposition transcripts confirm that upon being shown the photo, Trump misidentified his alleged rape victim for his second ex-wife, Marla Maples.
“That’s Marla, yeah,” Trump responded to the photo. “That’s my wife.”
Clearly, Marla Maples was Trump’s “type,” considering he was married to her for 6 years and the pair share a daughter, Tiffany Trump.
Suffice it to say, this mistake potentially cost Trump his entire, albeit weak defense against the sexual assault and rape allegations lodged against him by Carroll. If he so readily mistook her for his own ex-wife, it’s painfully clear that Carroll was, in fact, his “type.”
The Post report notes that Trump’s own attorney, Alina Habba, caught the blunder in the moment and quickly attempted to enact some damage control, informing the ex-president that he was looking at a photograph of his alleged victim, Carroll, and not his second wife.
Additional deposition excerpts show that Trump readily lobbed nasty insults and attacks against his accuser and even went so far as to openly make threats against Carroll and her attorneys.
“I will sue her after this is over, and that’s the thing I really look forward to doing,” Trump said to one of the attorneys during his testimony. “And I’ll sue you too because this is — how many cases do you have? Many, many cases, and I know the statements that were made — that you made. ‘Keep Trump busy because this is the way you defeat him, to keep him busy with litigation.’ So I will be suing you also, but I’ll be suing her very strongly as soon as this [is over].”
Trump also referred to E. Jean Carroll as a “nut job” and “mentally sick” during the deposition.
