Trump Makes A Surprising Decision Regarding National Guard Deployment To NYC

The president announced a decision about National Guard deployment in New York.

Over the course of Zohran Mamdani’s run for mayor of New York City, Donald Trump denounced Mamdani as a communist and worse, while also repeatedly threatening to cut off federal funding to the city. New York was also one of the cities to which Trump threatened to deploy federal troops.

However, now that Trump has had a friendly meeting with Mamdani, it appears he has reversed his stance on all of those issues, including the possible deployment.

According to HuffPost, Trump was asked by reporters over the weekend whether he still plans to send the National Guard to New York.

“If they need it, [I will send troops]. Right now, other places need it more, but if they need it,” Trump said in response to that question. “We had a very good meeting yesterday.”

Trump also said, once again, that the meeting he had with the incoming mayor had gone very well.

The president also drew a lot of attention for how he was dressed during that particular press availability. Trump was wearing the sort of turtleneck and overcoat that is far from how he typically dresses.
