Trump Makes His Pick For The Winner Of The Super Bowl

Will Trump be right?

Donald Trump has made his Super Bowl prediction, and in typical Trump fashion, it came with a bit of a twist. He has chosen the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LIX, but not just because of their superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. No, Trump had another reason: Mahomes’ wife, Brittany.

“I hate to do it. I’ve watched this great quarterback, who has, by the way, a phenomenal wife, OK?” Trump said during his pregame interview on Fox. “She’s a Trump fan, she’s a MAGA fan, so I happen to love her, OK? But she’s a great person … I guess you have to say that when a quarterback wins as much as he’s won, I have to go with Kansas City.”

Presidents predicting Super Bowl winners isn’t new. Some have been right, and some have been very, very wrong.

Back in 2016, President Barack Obama picked the New England Patriots over the Seattle Seahawks. He was right. Ronald Reagan, however, made history in 1985 by flipping the Super Bowl coin toss remotely from the White House—the first president to do so.

Trump’s own Super Bowl record is a bit of a mixed bag. In 2020, he hosted a campaign rally in Miami on Super Bowl Sunday but didn’t make an official pick. However, he did welcome the Chiefs to the White House after their win, calling Mahomes a “great champion.” In 2021, Trump was out of office when Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady—who once had a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker—led his team to victory.

Trump’s love for sports, especially golf, is well known. Before the Super Bowl, he was out golfing with Tiger Woods and Woods’ son, Charlie, on Sunday morning at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, Florida. He even met with PGA Tour officials earlier in the week to discuss their ongoing negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Trump will make history on Sunday as the first sitting or former president to actually attend the Super Bowl in person. He will be a guest of New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson and will watch the game with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, a Louisiana native.

Several presidents have attended games after leaving office. George H.W. Bush did the coin toss twice—once in 2002 and again in 2017 with his wife, Barbara. In 2009, Barack Obama watched the Super Bowl at the White House with military service mem. Joe Joe Biden has made multiple appearances at games, including cheering on his Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LVII.

Jill Biden, a lifelong Eagles fan, will also be in attendance on Sunday. So, if the Chiefs do win, she might have to endure a few “I told you so’s” from Trump.

Trump might have made his pick based on personal reasons, but the betting odds suggest he could be right. The Chiefs are slight favorites, led by Mahomes, who already has three Super Bowl rings. The Eagles are determined to get revenge after their heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs two years ago.

If Trump’s pick turns out to be correct, he’ll probably take credit for it. If not, there’s always a tweet (or a Truth Social post) blaming the referees.
