Donald Trump kicked off his new “Board of Peace” on Thursday in Washington, aiming to manage peace efforts in Gaza and beyond. But from the start, it looked chaotic. Several major European allies stayed away, leaving questions about credibility.
Trump joined other world leaders for a group photo.
“Today, it’s a tremendous honor to welcome you all to the United States Institute of Peace for the inaugural meeting of the Board Of Peace. I believe it’s the most consequential board… There’s never been anything close because these are the greatest world leaders,” Trump said.
He added, “We’ve been doing a really good job. We’ve had a great relationship, and I appreciate you being here.”
“We settled 8 wars, 9th to come, it turned out to be a tougher one,” he continued, repeating his familiar claims.

The summit brought together delegates from more than 40 nations, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Argentine President Javier Milei. The White House said talks would focus on humanitarian relief, Gaza governance, and setting up an international stabilization force. Trump also unveiled a plan to rebuild Gaza, claiming over $5 billion in pledges, though who’s actually contributing remains a mystery.
Some major allies skipped the event.
The UK, France, Norway, Sweden, and Slovenia declined, reportedly citing concerns that the Board doesn’t prioritize Gaza enough and could undermine the UN. The Vatican also stayed away, reaffirming that the UN remains the main authority for global crises. Italy and the EU attended only as observers. Russia was invited but has not committed.
Palestinian representation was limited. Key leaders, including advisers to President Mahmoud Abbas, called the arrangement “unacceptable,” even if it’s seen as a “lesser of two evils” under current conditions. Israel, however, confirmed participation, following talks with Trump in Washington.
The Gaza ceasefire holds, but challenges remain. Demilitarizing Hamas, rebuilding infrastructure, and returning displaced civilians are all massive hurdles. Trump has said the Board could expand into a broader conflict-resolution body, working with the UN but possibly independently.
Amid these serious stakes, the meeting took a surreal turn: world leaders were made to stand on stage as loud, bizarre music blared, instantly catching the internet’s attention.
Humiliating.
This isn’t diplomacy — it’s a hostage photo with a playlist.
Real leaders build alliances. Trump stages cringe to feel tall.“Board of Peace” looks like a bad awards show: forced smiles, awkward silence, ego in the center.
America reduced to a reality-TV prop.And…

It’s honestly embarrassing for the country. The world stage demands dignity and statesmanship not theatrics that make global leadership look like a punchline. America deserves better representation. pic.twitter.com/WpV92uSB93

What a cringeworthy spectacle, those leaders look like they’re in a bad awards show, not a peace summit.

FORCING LEADERS INTO A CIRCUS DOESN’T SHOW POWER, IT SHOWS INSECURITY. TRUE STATESMANSHIP EARNS RESPECT, IT DOESN’T SEEK APPLAUSE.

I wonder what their ‘inside’ voices are saying right now? Imagine if they said it out loud.

Hugely embarrassing. Like a cheap Vegas lobby act. Yeah that’s right @realDonaldTrump. You cannot buy ‘class’ no matter how much money you have stolen.
