Strange timing

As the funeral for wrestling legend Hulk Hogan took place quietly in Florida on Tuesday, President Donald Trump decided to share an old photo of the two together. The image showed them mid-arm-wrestling, and Trump captioned it with a message that came as a surprise to many: “They are having the ‘Hulkster’s’ funeral today, and I thought everybody would enjoy seeing this picture.”

The timing of the post didn’t sit well with many. Critics pointed out that it came across as self-centered, especially during a private family moment.

Trump shared the post while delivering remarks after signing an executive order. He didn’t offer any tribute to Hogan, who died on July 24 at age 71.

Hogan’s funeral was private. Medical records later confirmed he died from a heart attack. However, documents also revealed that the wrestling icon had been living with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a detail that had never been made public before.

His daughter, Brooke Hogan Oleksy, raised concerns about the handling of her father’s passing. She posted a headline from a news article that read, “Quick cremation without autopsy raises questions about Hulk Hogan’s death,” and added a GIF that said, “Exactly, thank you.”

She also spoke on Bubba the Love Sponge’s radio show and expressed confusion about how her father’s leukemia went undetected for so long. She claimed to have reviewed his medical records over the years before they became estranged and said there was never any sign of cancer. She found it strange that no autopsy was performed and questioned why a doctor would sign off on the cause of death without further examination.

According to the Pinellas County Forensic Science Center, Hogan’s heart attack was caused by an existing heart condition. He had a history of atrial fibrillation, which affects the way the heart beats. The leukemia diagnosis was also listed, but it remains unclear how long he had been living with the disease.

Trump and Hogan had known each other since the 1980s. Their relationship grew stronger when Hogan endorsed Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016.

In 2024, just days after the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, Hogan appeared at the Republican National Convention. He delivered a high-energy speech and tore off his shirt to reveal a Trump-Vance tank top. That moment drew wide attention and played well with Trump’s supporters.
