Anyone who has visited the Oval Office, or even seen it on TV, during Donald Trump’s second term has likely noticed that it looks different- with a lot more gold accents, and a great deal more like one of Trump’s personal properties, than the longtime seat of government for the executive branch.

“Democrats, preservationists, and historians slammed Trump as a philistine,” CNN said of the remodel, which has continued more recently with his tearing down of the East Wing to build a ballroom.

“Over the months of his administration, the number of gold trophies and vases littered across the mantlepiece have multiplied and there are now even gold coasters with Trump’s name on them,” The Guardian wrote of the makeover. Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, has said that the new look makes her want to “die of shame.”

On Monday, however, Trump bragged about how the new Oval Office looks.

“Look how beautiful the Oval Office is, now. Many of those great paintings of past Presidents were in the vaults for over 100 years. Now they are for everyone to enjoy!,” the president said on Truth Social, over a picture of himself in the Oval.

However, many people on social media had some other opinions about the new look, calling it “tacky” and mocking the president for it.
