Trump Promotes Message That Tells Americans To ‘Shut Up’ About Egg Prices

No fix, just finger-pointing.

President Donald Trump promised to lower grocery prices the moment he took office. But now, just two months into his term, he seems to have a different message: stop complaining.

Over the weekend, Trump shared an article on his Truth Social platform with the bold title, “Shut Up About Egg Prices — Trump Is Saving Consumers Millions.”

The article, written by right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk and published by The Daily Caller, defends Trump. It claims the high cost of eggs isn’t his fault and insists prices will soon drop.

The reality, however, tells a different story. Egg prices have been reaching record highs in recent weeks. In January, the average cost for a dozen eggs was $4.95, with some places seeing prices soar past $10 per dozen. Some grocery stores have even had to limit how many cartons people can buy, and in certain areas, eggs are running out entirely. Even restaurants are feeling the pain, adding extra charges to meals that contain eggs.

Kirk claims in his article that the rising prices are not Trump’s fault. Instead, he blames former President Joe Biden: “Almost all the increase took place during Biden’s final months in office.” While it’s true that egg prices have been fluctuating since 2022, much of the increase is due to bird flu outbreaks, which have killed millions of chickens and forced farms to cull even more to stop the spread. Supply chain issues have also played a role.

Even so, Trump campaigned hard on the idea that he would fix inflation immediately. Back in August, he confidently declared, “I will immediately bring prices down starting on Day 1.” Just a few weeks later, he promised, “Starting the day I take the oath of office, I will rapidly drive prices down.”

But now that he’s actually in office, Trump has changed his tune. Last month, he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity, “Inflation is back,” but quickly shifted the blame, saying, “I’m only here for two and a half weeks… I had nothing to do with it.”

His attempt to dodge responsibility didn’t sit well with many Americans. Across social media, frustrated users fired back, calling out the contradiction between his campaign promises and his current stance.

Nope, it’s your problem now. Fix it you said it yourself. I’ll do it on day one!

Oh no, it’s just another lie.

Kirk’s article insists that Trump is working hard to lower prices. He specifically points to a new government initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency, which he claims will “lead to savings for all Americans.” However, there’s little information on what this department is doing, and so far, egg prices haven’t budged.

The big question remains: Will egg prices drop under Trump? So far, there’s no clear plan in place to make that happen. While the bird flu crisis is expected to ease later this year, leading to a possible price decrease, that has little to do with Trump’s actions.

If prices do come down, Trump will likely take credit. If they don’t, he may continue to blame Biden. Either way, telling Americans to “shut up” about expensive groceries is not a winning strategy.
