The White House hallway now features a photo of Trump and Putin, placed above a picture of one of his grandchildren.
The image comes from their meeting in Alaska last August and sits in the hallway connecting the West Wing to the residence, according to White House reporter Elizabeth Landers, who shared a photo on X.
Also something I noticed in a vestibule area that connects the West Wing to the residence that I hadn’t see before: a framed photo of Presidents Trump and Putin at their summer summit in Alaska. Lower photo is President Trump with one of his grandchildren. pic.twitter.com/jabUEmZyay

The photo was praised by Kirill Dmitriev, a top Russian negotiator. He said: “Good. A picture is worth a thousand words.”

However, many others disagreed. Senator Mark Warner called it out on social media: “Putting Putin above the American people and his own family. Almost a little too on the nose.”

Estonian politician Marko Mihkelson also reacted, warning about the Ukraine war.
If it is true that the U.S. president considers it appropriate to hang on the White House wall a photo of the greatest war criminal of the 21st century, then a just and sustainable peace will have to wait. Unfortunately. pic.twitter.com/gcSJ1fhYMy

Others weighed in. Some called him a Russian asset and said the display was disgusting.
I said it before & I say it again. “Trump is a Russian asset, put into the white house by Putin”s technoteens . His job – to destroy USA & NATO”. He is doing it. Putin doesn’t care how rich Trump gets as long as NATO is destroyed & Trump only cares about hims3lf and his money

What a truly bizarre picture to hang. Trump and a dictator who is an enemy of our country, who invaded a European ally. This is not normal, Maga knows it but plays mental gymnastics to defend Trump rather than admit they were wrong about him.

Grotesque, repulsive, disgusting.
He replaces Biden with a pen and puts up a photo of Putin. What a tramp.

He loves Putin.
Putin handed him the presidency and he’s profoundly grateful.
Also, he’s a Russian asset.

Putting Putin above his family.
Not surprised. https://t.co/eseizdVxw6— yeah, no (@yourelikemyyoyo) January 28, 2026
The White House has changed a lot since Trump came back to office. The Palm Room was redone last month. His personal touches keep people talking.
The Alaska meeting got worldwide notice. On August 15, Putin arrived on a red carpet. Video shows the two leaders shaking hands and laughing. At one point, Putin even rode in Trump’s armored car, “The Beast,” instead of his own.
