Kimberly Guilfoyle went from defending Donald Trump on Fox News to serving as a campaign surrogate, even speaking at the Republican convention and leading Women for Trump rallies. She also spent several years engaged to the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., although the two split up around the time of the 2024 election, with Don going on to marry another woman. But she was given the consolation prize of the ambassadorship to Greece.

This week, after the Wall Street Journal published texts in which Guilfoyle appeared to ask a donor to pay off her credit card debt, the White House announced that Guilfoyle was out as ambassador.

When asked by reporters Tuesday about the scandal, Trump appeared to distance himself from the woman who was almost his daughter-in-law.

“She wasn’t a member of my family. She I guess dated my son a long time ago,” the president said of the departing ambassador. “She went to Greece and she was doing a good job, but we didn’t like what we were reading.”

Social media users were shocked to hear this out of the president’s mouth, considering how long Don Jr. and Guilfoyle were together.
