President Donald Trump now says he owns the real FIFA Club World Cup trophy. He claims FIFA gave it to him before the final even happened.

Chelsea beat Paris Saint Germain in a huge 3 to 0 upset. They were supposed to celebrate with the real trophy. But it never made it to the stage. It stayed in Trump’s hands.

“They said, ‘Could you hold this trophy for a little while?’ We put it in the Oval Office,” Trump told DAZN before the match. “And then I said, ‘When are you going to pick up the trophy?’ He says, ‘We’re never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We’re making a new one.’”

Trump added, “It’s in the Oval right now.”

That means Chelsea got a fake.

Cole Palmer scored 2 goals in the match. He was named the best player of the tournament. But he still looked unsure on stage.

“I knew he was going to be here but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yes,” Palmer said.

Captain Reece James also looked surprised. “They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage, and I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay.”

Trump stood on stage like he had scored the winning goal himself. Smiling. Clapping. Soaking it all in.

But the fans were not happy.

When Trump and First Lady Melania appeared on the stadium screen, the crowd booed. When he walked onto the pitch, the boos got louder.

The stadium even turned up the music to cover the noise.

Still, Trump kept smiling. He joked with the interviewer about changing the word “soccer” to “football.”

“I think we could do that,” he said. “I think I could do that.”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino stood right next to Trump the whole time. He smiled. He clapped. He didn’t seem to mind the boos.

Infantino recently opened a new FIFA office inside Trump Tower in New York, so their friendship runs deep. During the ceremony, he even handed Trump a medal — just like one of the players.

Trump got his moment. He took the spotlight and held the real trophy. Cameras flashed as he smiled and waved.  Chelsea, the team that won the game, only got a copy. They gave everything on the field. They earned the win. But they posed with a backup.
