Miller, per CNN, “has been a leading advocate for a more restrictive immigration policy and is expected to take on an expanded role in the president-elect’s second term.” He was also closely associated with the controversial family separation policy during Trump’s first term.

Per The New York Times, Miller’s portfolio in the White House will be “vast,” and “far exceed what the eventual title will convey.”

In 2018, during the family separation uproar, an unnamed Trump White adviser gave a memorable quote about Miller, to Vanity Fair.

“Stephen actually enjoys seeing those pictures at the border,” the adviser said of Miller. “He’s a twisted guy, the way he was raised and picked on. There’s always been a way he’s gone about this. He’s Waffen-SS.”

After the announcement of Miller’s new role, CNN contributor Tara Setmayer called Miller a “despicable human being,” and noted that his family had “disowned” him (an uncle of Miller’s has written op-eds critical of him.)

“I suggest lots of folks who voted for Donald Trump go back and watch a lot of interviews and media appearances by Stephen Miller. And you see who he is. He’s a despicable human being that is a racist and a xenophobe, and his own family has disowned him,” Setmayer said on CNN.
