Trump Reportedly Told His Inner Circle That Elon Musk Will Be Stepping Back From His Current Role

This was unexpected from Trump.

Musk was brought into the Trump administration as a “special government employee,” meaning he could temporarily bypass some ethics rules while advising the White House. His main task was to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and slash unnecessary spending. But his time in government has been filled with chaos. His bold and often reckless decisions, such as demanding federal employees justify their jobs overnight and accidentally cutting funds for Ebola prevention, have caused tension within the administration.

For months, Trump stood by Musk. A senior official said last month, “Elon is here to stay.” It seemed like Trump was trying to keep him in government beyond the 130-day limit of his role. However, as tensions grew and concerns mounted, the situation changed dramatically.

In a surprising move, Musk walked away from his position at DOGE, shocking many people, according to the Daily Mail. Now, political insiders are trying to make sense of what happened. While Trump insists the decision was mutual, sources suggest that Musk has become a growing problem.

Musk’s brutal approach to firing thousands and shutting down entire departments made him a hero to some and a villain to others. His $20 million bet on the Wisconsin Supreme Court race was a disaster when his candidate lost badly.

The problems didn’t stop with politics. Tesla was struggling, with sales dropping and mysterious car lot fires making headlines. To show support, Trump even turned the White House lawn into a Tesla showroom, personally buying one of Musk’s electric cars. But behind the scenes, Trump was losing patience.

In a private meeting, Trump reportedly told his team that the Cabinet is responsible for running their departments, not Elon. That statement changed everything. Until then, people thought Trump might find a way to keep Musk in the administration. But now, it looks like the president is ready to let him go even though Musk spent $200 million to help get Trump elected.

Even though Musk is leaving his official government role, he isn’t leaving Trump’s inner circle. Insiders say he will still have direct access to the president and an open invitation to the Oval Office. His influence on policies will likely continue, especially in technology and defense.

So what’s next for Musk? In an interview with Bret Baier at Fox News, he hinted at his departure, saying, “I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by $1 trillion within that time frame.” This suggests that Musk is ready to claim victory and step away before things get worse.

However, some experts think Musk won’t disappear entirely. He has built strong ties with Trump and could still influence policy from the outside. One administration official warned that anyone who thinks Musk will just walk away is “fooling themselves.”
