President Donald Trump looked straight into the cameras last week and gave a firm denial when asked if Attorney General Pam Bondi had told him his name appeared in the Epstein files. “No, no,” he replied, before quickly blaming the entire story on what he called a setup by his enemies—claiming it was made up by Comey, Obama, and Biden.
But now, we know he wasn’t telling the truth.
According to The Wall Street Journal, and now confirmed by The New York Times, the Department of Justice informed Trump that his name appears in the Epstein files. This happened during a White House meeting in the spring. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche were both present. The Times says it was part of a broader briefing on the case, and both officials told Trump directly.
In a later statement, Bondi and Blanche said, “Nothing in the files warranted further investigation or prosecution.”

That flips the entire story. Trump had already tried to bury another scandal last week. He sued The Wall Street Journal, its reporters, and even Rupert Murdoch after the paper published a story saying Trump once sent Epstein a birthday card. The card allegedly had a sketch of a naked woman and the message, “Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret.” Trump called it fake and took the paper to court.
Now, the same paper is reporting something even more serious. The DOJ informed him months ago that his name is in the Epstein case files.
The Journal did say that just being named in the files does not mean someone did something illegal. The documents contain hearsay and social connections. But still—why lie?
Trump didn’t say he didn’t do anything. He said no one told him he was in the files. And that is not true.
He went further. He praised Pam Bondi. He said she was handling everything well. But if she sat across from him in May and told him the truth, why is he lying about it now? And if she didn’t, is The Wall Street Journal just making everything up?
Trump also said Bondi should release only the parts she finds “credible.” But that line has only stirred more curiosity. Many now believe there’s something deeper inside those sealed files that he does not want out.
The White House communications director, Steven Cheung, called any suggestion of wrongdoing “fake news” and claimed Trump kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago “for being a creep.” But none of this explains why the president denied even being briefed in the first place.
