After Navi Pillay won the Nobel Peace Prize, Donald Trump called the committee’s choice an “indelible stain on Norway” in a lengthy Truth Social post.
The post went up late Friday, after a rally in Syracuse, New York. It was built around a single grievance: the prize should have been his. “I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else!” he wrote.
He then listed eight conflicts he says he has settled, running from Cambodia and Thailand to Israel and Hamas. The Hill describes that tally as exaggerated. He also wrote that he is about to settle or win two more, in Iran and in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

On Pillay, The Hill reports he claimed she “very obviously, hates Israel.” The rest of her résumé is easy to find. She served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014, and she has also served on the International Criminal Court, a body Trump has sanctioned.

The Israel objection traces to her more recent work. She chaired a United Nations commission that concluded Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Israel has condemned the committee’s decision.
The committee’s own case is shorter. In a social media post, it credited her with “exceptional courage and integrity.”
Pillay found out at the Nuremberg Forum, a law gathering in Germany, and she had a joke ready. She told the applauding crowd, “I may share this prize with Trump.” The line was a nod to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, last year’s winner, who gave Trump her medal. The Norwegian Nobel Institute made clear the prize itself can’t be transferred.
Trump did not take the offer. He did not congratulate Pillay on Friday. Earlier that day he reposted a message saying the Nobel committee “shamed itself beyond repair.”
The sting is a familiar one.
A year ago, when Machado won, White House communications director Steven Cheung wrote that the committee “proved they place politics over peace.”
President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives.
He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu weighed in too, tweeting, “President Donald Trump makes it happen.”
The Nobel Committee talks about peace. President @realDonaldTrump makes it happen.
The facts speak for themselves. President #Trump deserves it.#PeaceThroughStrength

The committee’s chair, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, was asked about it that day. Without naming Trump, he said the committee “has seen many types of campaign, media attention.” Trump has pushed for the prize for years, in public and in calls to Norwegian officials.
